Who is responsible for your information
DuckRead is operated by Elinor White. For data-protection purposes, Elinor White is the controller of personal information handled by DuckRead. You can contact DuckRead at support@duckread.com.
Information DuckRead collects
DuckRead may collect the following information when you use the app, website, or support channels:
- Contact information: your email address for account sign up, sign in, password reset, email confirmation, and support.
- User content: text you paste or edit, saved reading sessions, reading titles, Duck Check answers and results, Zoned Out recaps, simplified readings, and other reports you choose to create.
- Identifiers: account identifiers used to keep your account, saved readings, reports, subscription access, and app events connected to the right DuckRead account.
- Purchases: subscription status and purchase history needed to unlock DuckRead Pro and restore access.
- Product interaction data: events such as onboarding answers, tutorial use, reading actions, feature use, and whether a reading or Duck Check was started or completed.
- Diagnostics: AI action type, model, token counts, provider attempts, request status, latency, error codes, timestamps, and generated responses retained to prevent duplicate requests, enforce usage limits, investigate failures, and operate the service.
- Support and website information: messages you send to support and ordinary technical information processed when you visit the DuckRead website, such as IP address and request details.
How information is collected
DuckRead receives information directly from you when you create an account, paste text, complete a Duck Check, use another reading tool, or contact support. DuckRead also records product and diagnostic events when you use the service. Apple and RevenueCat provide subscription and entitlement information needed to unlock or restore DuckRead Pro.
Purposes and legal bases
DuckRead processes information for the following purposes:
- To perform the service contract: create and secure your account, save readings and reports, provide AI reading features, check subscription access, restore purchases, and answer support requests.
- For legitimate interests: understand feature use, maintain reliability and performance, prevent duplicate or abusive requests, protect accounts, troubleshoot failures, and improve DuckRead. DuckRead does not use this information for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.
- To comply with legal obligations: retain or disclose limited information when required by law, lawful process, accounting, tax, fraud-prevention, or consumer-protection obligations.
- With consent where required: for a purpose that DuckRead specifically explains when asking for consent. You may withdraw that consent prospectively by using the offered control or contacting support.
An email address and account identifier are required to create a DuckRead account. Reading text and explanations are optional, but the relevant features cannot work unless you provide them. Subscription information is required to unlock DuckRead Pro.
AI features
If you use Duck Check, Zoned Out, or Simplify Reading, the relevant reading text and your response are sent through a Supabase Edge Function to Google's Gemini API so DuckRead can generate feedback, recaps, or simplified text. DuckRead also records the associated operational diagnostics described above. AI output may be incomplete or incorrect, so treat it as reading support, not as professional advice. DuckRead does not use AI feedback to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you.
Subscriptions and payments
Purchases, trials, renewals, cancellations, and payment details are handled by Apple. DuckRead uses RevenueCat to help confirm subscription status and restore access. DuckRead does not store your full payment card details.
Service providers
DuckRead uses service providers to operate the product. They process information for the stated purposes and under their applicable service and data-protection terms:
- Supabase: authentication, database storage, and server functions.
- Google Gemini: AI-generated reading feedback, recaps, simplification, and summaries.
- RevenueCat: subscription entitlement and purchase-status management.
- Apple: App Store distribution, trials, purchases, billing, refunds, and subscription management.
- Cloudflare and email providers: website delivery, routing, security, and support communications.
DuckRead may also disclose information when required by law, to protect users or the service, or as part of a business transfer subject to appropriate confidentiality and notice obligations.
International processing
DuckRead and its providers may process information in the United States and other countries that may have different data-protection laws from your country. Where applicable law requires it, DuckRead relies on adequacy decisions, contractual safeguards, or another lawful transfer mechanism provided through the relevant service-provider terms. Contact DuckRead if you would like more information about applicable safeguards.
No tracking or sale of personal information
DuckRead does not sell your personal information. DuckRead does not use your email address, pasted reading text, purchase history, or product interaction data for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.
Data retention and deletion
Account information, saved readings, reports, subscription status, product events, and account-linked AI diagnostics are generally retained while your account is active and while needed to provide, secure, and improve DuckRead. Support correspondence is retained while resolving the request and for a reasonable period afterward. Limited records may be kept longer when required for legal, tax, fraud-prevention, security, or dispute-resolution purposes. Providers may retain backups and security logs according to their own documented schedules.
You can delete your DuckRead account and associated saved app data from Account settings. You may also contact support for help. Deleting your DuckRead account does not automatically cancel an active Apple subscription; manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple account.
Your choices and privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of, or a portable copy of your personal information. You may also have the right to object to certain processing, withdraw consent where processing is based on consent, and complain to your local data-protection authority.
You can update certain account details and delete your account in the app. To make another privacy request, email support@duckread.com. DuckRead may need to verify your identity before completing a request. UK users may also contact the UK Information Commissioner's Office.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, but no internet service can guarantee perfect security. Do not paste passwords, payment card numbers, or highly sensitive information into DuckRead.
Changes to this policy
DuckRead may update this policy as the product, providers, or legal requirements change. The updated date above shows when this policy was last revised. Material changes will be communicated through the app, website, or another appropriate channel when required.
